Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with Julian Nagelsmann over the past few weeks.

In March, The Telegraph reported that he was Daniel Levy’s top target to replace Antonio Conte at Spurs.

For a while, Tottenham seemingly fell behind in the race to sign Nagelsmann amid links with Chelsea.

However, Fabrizio Romano reported last week that Nagelsmann withdrew from talks over the Blues job.

The manager told Sky Sports Germany that “to cancel something, you have to commit to something”.

Romano stressed that Nagelsmann to Chelsea was “definitely over”.

Then, Christian Falk wrote on Twitter that the 35-year-old was concentrating on landing the Spurs job.

The Telegraph’s Jason Burt has now given his verdict on the prospect of Nagelsmann to Tottenham.

He claimed that Manchester City would look to him if, hypothetically, Pep Guardiola were to leave tomorrow.

“It will be a high-risk strategy,” Burt said on Sky Sports’ Back Pages Podcast.

“Because he’s a difficult man to work with and a demanding coach. But he could develop the younger players.

“Tottenham should bear in mind that if Pep Guardiola walks out of Manchester City tomorrow he would be on Man City’s list, so he is a coach who is very highly rated.

“He is available and if they go about it the right way they could get him.”

Our view

If Nagelsmann were to join Tottenham, it would represent a big coup for the North London club.

The 35-year-old is a “phenomenal” coach who boasts an impressive CV, including a Bundesliga title.

In addition, Nagelsmann is highly regarded for his ability to develop young players.

It says a lot that Manchester City would seemingly consider him to replace Guardiola.

Luckily for Spurs, the Spaniard doesn’t look like he’s thinking of a career move just yet.

Tottenham, meanwhile, are in need of a fresh start after a difficult campaign that just seems to be getting worse.

A season that promised so much has culminated in the prospect of no trophies and a battle for the top four.

In addition, Tottenham are now down to their second interim manager of the season after sacking Cristian Stellini.
