At this point it seems very unlikely that Yves Bissouma will be joining Arsenal, but he may still wind up in North London because Tottenham Hotspur are now reportedly keen.

Bissouma has been linked with a move to Arsenal for a lot of the year and really, the speculation only died down when Albert Sambi Lokonga was signed last month.

But the only thing worse than the 24-year-old not joining the Gunners is if he signs for Tottenham – who according to The Sunday Mirror [29/08, page 66] are interested.

Actually, it would sicken a lot of people on the red half of the North London divide.

Devastating

It would be such a bitter pill to swallow for Arsenal fans.

And not strictly because the Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder is a fine player, which he is.

It would also hurt the Gunners faithful because it has been widely reported for a lot of the calendar year that he wanted to play for the Emirates Stadium side, having grown up following the Premier League giants.

In terms of transfers, this was an open goal for Arsenal in the sense that Bissouma was clearly there for the taking.

So if he joins Tottenham and winds up proving a brilliant signing for them, which he most probably would, it would only serve to increase the resentment that many supporters harbour toward Mikel Arteta and Edu.

And rightly so because any player who Fabio Paratici deems good enough for Spurs right now is definitely good enough for Arsenal, who are bottom of the Premier League table after losing all three of their games so far.
