According to FootMercato, Tottenham Hotspur are keen on a move for Lyon striker Moussa Dembele.

Spurs are set to spend big this summer, and if they are to bring Dembele to the club, you have to imagine that he’ll be one of their biggest signings of the season.

Indeed, The Daily Mail have claimed that the Frenchman is valued at £25m, and, to be honest, it wouldn’t surprise us one bit if he cost more than that after netting 21 Ligue 1 goals this season.

Unfortunately for Spurs, they may well end up paying over the odds for a player they could have had for a bargain price back in 2016.

Cast your mind back to the January transfer window in 2015/16, Spurs were scouring the EFL for the next top talent, and Moussa Dembele, then of Fulham, was on their radar.

In fact, a deal looked all but done for Dembele to join Spurs, but due to a disagreement about a potential loan back to Craven Cottage that summer, the Frenchman’s £6m move to north London collapsed.

Now, six years later, Spurs may have to price the costly price of missing out on Dembele.

Not only was it a blow for Spurs to watch Dembele turn into a superstar since leaving Fulham – even Pep Guardiola has branded him as an ‘exceptional player’, but now, Tottenham may pay over four times as much as they were originally supposed to for Dembele.

Tottenham will have had plenty of regrets about not signing Dembele in 2016, and now that failed move may come back to bite them financially.
