It looks like Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Donny van de Beek was legitimate.
The Dutch midfielder had been linked with a move to Spurs a good bit over the past fortnight.
According to Spanish outlet Sport, Tottenham had contacted Ajax about signing the talented midfielder.
But Van de Beek joined Manchester United in a £35 million deal a little earlier this week.
The player revealed on Friday night that Tottenham winger and Netherlands team-mate Steven Bergwijn personally texted him to ask if he was moving to North London [Destentor], illustrating that there was substance to the idea Daniel Levy and Jose Mourinho wanted him.

The Lilywhites failing to sign him could be considered a boost to Tanguy Ndombele.
The Frenchman has been linked with a move away from Mourinho’s side following a trying first season in England after joining Tottenham in a club-record £63 million deal last summer.
They both play in the same position and, if the former Ajax star isn’t there, it perhaps helps Ndombele in his bid to start proving a point under the Portuguese coach next season.
