Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli has joked about the reaction of manager Mauricio Pochettino following his misses for England.

Dele Alli as been tipped for greatness for a long time now, with his performances for Tottenham Hotspur over the last year grabbing the headlines. The 20-year-old still has a lot to learn, but the early signs are good as he attempts to become one of the world’s best players. Unfortunately despite his goal for England against Malta he did miss quite a few chances in the game, and as reported by the Evening Standard the midfielder joked to talkSPORT that manager Pochettino would be texting him about his performance.

Alli’s first strike was well saved by Malta goalkeeper Andrew Hogg, however he was on hand to tap in the rebound in a match that could have seen him bag a hat-trick given the chances he had.

“I’ll be waiting for the texts from him tonight!” said Alli in reference to Pochettino.

“Like I say, I’m disappointed with the miss but I’ve got to try and put it behind me and keep scoring goals.

“I’m disappointed in myself, it doesn’t feel like I have scored, I feel like I should have had more and I need to put it behind me and go into the next game looking to score more goals.

“Every game is different and there is no easy game at international level. They sat deep and made it hard for us to keep going, it was important that we didn’t get carried away.”

The Tottenham star will attempt to keep up this run of form with his club side following this break, as Spurs prepare to travel to The Hawthorns to face West Bromwich Albion as they attempt to build on their superb form prior to the latest round of international fixtures.
