Gary Lineker has backed Jurgen Klopp over his comments about Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold.
In a shock move, Alexander-Arnold was left out of England’s latest squad for the recent international break.
Liverpool boss Klopp told BBC Sport on Friday that although he respected Gareth Southgate’s decision, he did not understand it.
The 22-year-old hasn’t been at his best for the Reds this season and only has one goal and five assists from 34 games in all competitions. For context, he managed five goals and 31 assists over his past two campaigns prior to this one.
With England’s Euro 2020 campaign on the horizon, now is not the time to lose form.
But Three Lions legend Lineker has claimed on Twitter that he has no doubt that Southgate will bring the Liverpool defender to the tournament.
As the adage goes, form is temporary and class is permanent – and the right-back, despite a dip in form, does have an awful lot of class to offer Southgate this summer.
If Alexander-Arnold is snubbed, it would be a massive shock.
