Dr. Brian Sutterer admitted that Nikola Jokic’s knee injury looked very painful, but may not be too serious.

Nikola Jokic picked up a knee injury during the Denver Nuggets’ loss to the Miami Heat, forcing him out of the game after halftime.

The sight of the reigning NBA Finals MVP leaving the court raised immediate concern among fans. However, one sports medicine expert has offered a more reassuring outlook for Nuggets supporters.

Sports medicine expert explains how Nikola Jokic may have avoided serious injury

Dr. Brian Sutterer, a famous sports medicine expert on YouTube, addressed Nikola Jokic’s injury against the Miami Heat.

He pointed out that the contact came from a teammate colliding with Jokic’s lower leg, rather than a direct blow to the knee itself. That distinction, he said, is important when assessing the potential severity of the injury.

“We’re dealing with a hyperextension of the left knee. This looks like a lower-grade, lower-severity type of hyperextension. I don’t see an excessive amount of hyperextension or side-to-side movement.”

He also noted that Jokic was mostly stationary during the play, which likely reduced the force placed on his knee.

“The fact that he wasn’t running or landing makes this a much more positive sign,” he added, describing the situation as “more optimistic than pessimistic.”

Jokic did not return after halftime, but the team has not released any details about the nature or extent of the injury. Denver Nuggets coach David Adelman simply said after the game that he would be tested on Tuesday.

While Jokic’s status remains unclear, Dr. Sutterer’s assessment gives fans reason to be hopeful that the injury is not a significant one.

The Nuggets will be hoping for a quick return as they continue their push through the season. Jokic has been playing at an MVP level, and that has given the Nuggets a huge boost in the West.

Without Jokic, the Nuggets will definitely struggle. But if Dr. Sutterer is correct here, they won’t have to be without him for too long.
