West Ham have bid £27.1m for Sporting’s William Carvalho but would Jack Wilshere of Arsenal be a better option?
It seems West Ham United are in the market for a new central midfielder, with the Telegraph reporting they have submitted a bid for Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho.
According to the Evening Standard, the Hammers have also previously shown interest in Jack Wilshere of Arsenal – so with both players aged 25, who would be the best option for the East London club?

William Carvalho
The report from the Telegraph claims West Ham are willing to pay a club record £27.1m for Carvalho; a hefty outlay when they have already sanctioned the expensive purchases of Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez this summer.
That said, the Portugal international – who has 37 caps for the country and helped them win Euro 2016 – has been linked with some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs in the past, so landing him would be something of a coup for the Hammers.
Jack Wilshere
The Englishman is currently training with the Under-23s to try and prove himself to Arsene Wenger, after falling out of favour with the Gunners and being sent on loan to Bournemouth last season as a result.
However, many still believe Wilshere has enough time to fully fulfill his potential and having entered the final year of his current contract at the Emirates Stadium, the Express claimed in July that he could be available for as little as £9m.
