SV Sandhausen sporting director Mikayil Kabaca has confirmed that the 2. Bundesliga side are yet to receive an offer from Liverpool for Patrick Drewes, with the Reds interested in signing the goalkeeper.

Speaking to Kicker via GGFN, the German official revealed that Sandhausen have not heard anything from Liverpool yet regarding Drewes, with Sport Bild reporting this week that the Anfield side are looking to sign the 29-year-old shot-stopper to act as backup for Alisson Becker.

Whilst the interest is relatively new, Liverpool haven’t launched a offer just yet for Drewes, with Kabaca clarifying the situation by saying: “We have not received an offer,” with a move in January likely on the cards for the Sandhausen star.

The news might come as a surprise to a lot of Liverpool supporters. Whilst Alisson has been far from his best this season, Caoimhin Kelleher’s injury problems have seemingly inspired Jurgen Klopp to look beyond Merseyside for a backup to the Brazillian no. 1, with Drewes now on the agenda.

A keeper who is often regarded as one of the best in the German second-tier, Liverpool signing Drewes could open the door for Kelleher to leave the Reds on loan or even on a permanent deal, with the Republic of Ireland international yet to play a single minute of football this season.

Indeed, Manchester City made a similar move this summer by loaning out Zack Steffen and signing Stefan Ortega to replace the American international as Ederson Moraes’ backup. And for Liverpool, it appears that the Reds are doing something similar for their goalkeeper union.

The 2. Bundesliga might not be the first place Liverpool fans will think of where their backup to Alisson might come from. However, signing Drewes would be quite a coup for the Reds, with the transfer a deal that feels like nothing can go wrong given how cheap the move will be.

With Drewes’ potential arrival freeing up the chance for Kelleher to leave on loan, the 29-year-old taking the role of Alisson’s understudy would be a good use of the January transfer window, and Liverpool will be wise to do such a move ahead of the winter market.
