Speaking on the Baggies Broadcast Podcast, former West Brom Sporting Director, Dan Ashworth, has shared how he almost signed Robert Lewandowski for the Baggies.
The Polish striker is one of world football’s biggest names these days, but a decade ago, he very nearly ended up playing for a mid-table Premier League team.
Fulham and Blackburn both had a look at him, and according to Ashworth, West Brom were in the race as well.
What’s been said?
Ashworth spoke about Lewandowski.
“Who else did we look at? I’m sure there are loads. There was another one, Lewandowski. A lot of English clubs were looking at him in the Polish league and wondered if he had the physicality, us included, and of course he’s gone on to become a world-class striker, we didn’t say he wasn’t good enough, he was on our radar and we were sniffing around for a time. We never put a bid in for him, but we all have these stories, but we never went hard for him,” Ashworth said.

Coming to the Premier League?
Lewandowski very nearly came to the Premier League in the early 2010s, and now, ten years on, he could finally be making his move to England.
Indeed, the striker admitted that he may have played his last game for Bayern Munich earlier this week, and Liverpool have been linked with a move for the Polish striker.
Lewandowski, of course, worked under Jurgen Klopp during his time at Borussia Dortmund, and a reunion between the pair may well be on the cards this summer.
Sadly for West Brom, we have an inkling that they won’t be involved in the race to sign Lewandowski this time around.
