Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Roland Virkus has opened up on why reported Tottenham target Marcus Thuram didn’t leave the club in January.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the Bundesliga official revealed that Thuram did not receive a single offer in the winter transfer window despite strong links and reports that the France international would leave Monchengladbach, with Tottenham one of the sides interested in the forward.
Virkus said: “If we look at the contracts of Ramy Bensebaini and Marcus Thuram, I can assure you that didn’t have any offers on the table for either player. As a result, we are pleased that both of them will be with us for the second half of the season and hopefully will be able to help us to achieve our aims with their footballing class.”
AS have recently reported that Tottenham are interested in Thuram and that a summer move is likely for the north London side, where the 25-year-old attacker, who was hailed as ‘world-class’ by Wolfsburg’s sporting director Marcel Schafer, will be a free agent having left Gladbach for free.

Indeed, the striker is expected to leave the Foals at the end of his contract, with many expecting the Bundesliga side to cash in on Thuram this January. However, in the words of Virkus, not a single offer was made for the Parma-born superstar.
With 13 goals in 20 appearances in all competitions this season, though, it won’t take long for Thruam to be snapped up in the summer once he leaves Gladbach. And for Tottenham, the forward could be ideal should one of Harry Kane or Heung-min Son depart in the transfer window.
Tottenham have to be first in line to sign Thuram in the summer

Tottenham are due a major summer of change with both Antonio Conte and Fabio Partici rumoured to leave the club come the end of the season. And with a star player likely to follow, signings will be key for the north London side, which is why landing Thuram could be so vital.
The France superstar has been in exceptional form for both club and country this season. And with the forward set to leave for nothing in the summer, Tottenham have to ensure they are at the front of the queue to sign the 25-year-old once Thuram leaves Germany.
