Bruno Guimaraes has been speaking to The Shields Gazette after Newcastle presented their new £40m signing to the media.
Interestingly, he revealed that a former Newcastle player helped him decide on making the move to Tyneside.
What’s the story?
Well, Guimaraes spoke to Claudio Cacapa before sealing his move to Newcastle.
Cacapa played for the Magpies from 2007 to 2009, making 29 appearances for the Tynesiders before joining Cruzeiro after his contract expired.
Speaking about his chat with the man who now works as a coach at Lyon, Guimaraes said: “I’d also like to mention Claudio Cacapa, a coach at Lyon. I spoke to him a lot about coming here. He’s someone who helped me in my decision, so warmest regards to Claudio as well.”
In our view, this conversation may have been pivotal – Eddie Howe must be thanking his lucky stars that a former Newcastle player just so happened to be at Lyon with Guimaraes.
It was a bad time for Cacapa at Newcastle, where he struggled with injuries before watching the Magpies suffer relegation.
Therefore, it speaks volumes that he still found plenty of positive things to say about the club.
Bruno Guimaraes could make Newcastle debut tonight

Make sure to tune into Newcastle’s clash with Everton tonight, as Guimaraes is expected to make his debut.
The Brazilian is fit and raring to go for the Magpies. He shone for Brazil over the international break, and surely to Newcastle’s relief, arrived in England unscathed.
In our view, he will replace Joe Willock in the midfield which started against Leeds, also consisting of Joelinton and Jonjo Shelvey.
Many expect Joelinton and Guimaraes to strike up a partnership in the middle of the park.

The Brazilian duo could be seen chatting in the dressing room, and the £40m man said he’s spent plenty of time with his fellow South American.
Shelvey also proved to be the match-winner against Leeds, so we can’t see him being dropped for tonight’s clash with the Toffees.
Hopefully, Guimaraes can inspire Newcastle to a much-needed three points.
