Speaking to BBC Sport, Peterborough’s Director of Football Barry Fry has claimed that he’s spoken to David Sullivan recently and he’s told him West Ham still want to buy Ivan Toney.
Fry of course knows Toney very well, having worked alongside him at Peterborough before selling him to Brentford last summer.
The Director claims that West Ham were in for the 25-year-old last summer, and while they didn’t manage to land him in 2020, they still want to buy him.
“West Ham were in for him – I spoke to David Sullivan recently and they still want to buy him. But Brentford wanted to put him in the team straight away. All the others saw him on the bench, and he wanted to play,” Fry said.
This is a very interesting update indeed.
West Ham certainly need a striker. After all, they’ve still not replaced Sebastien Haller after his departure in January.

Whether or not Toney comes in this summer remains to be seen, but it seems as though the Hammers’ hopes of landing him hinge on the outcome of Brentford’s upcoming playoff campaign.
Toney would be a great addition at West Ham, and he’s proven his quality this term, netting 29 goals in the Championship already.
Fingers crossed this is a deal the London club can get over the line in the summer.
