It was a sight the Aberdeen fans were dreading, seeing Jonny Hayes take to the field against them wearing Celtic’s colours.

Hayes spent five years on Aberdeen’s books, helping the Dons to three straight second-place finishes and the Scottish League Cup in 2013.

Several English sides were believed to be interested in the Irish winger, but a chance to play under his former boss Brendan Rodgers at the reigning Scottish champions proved too hard to turn down.

He was left out entirely as Celtic overcame Dundee at the weekend, but returned for the final 13 minutes of Wednesday’s win at the home of his former employers – who were already 3-0 down by that point.
