The USA drew with England on Friday evening in a game that felt like it was utterly dominated by the Americans in the midfield.
This match was a war of attrition, and it’s fair to say that the States won it, with their midfield completely stifling any idea or thought of creativity from England’s central players.
Gregg Berhalter had a gameplan, and his team stuck to it, and at the heart of that was 19-year-old Yunus Musah.
The teenage sensation was let go by Arsenal as a 16-year-old, but the Gunners may be regretting their decision this morning as Musah put on a solid showing against England and earned praise in the US press, receiving an 8/10 rating from Sporting News.
Musah hailed
The midfielder was praised by Sporting News as they gave their player ratings.
“The U.S. midfield was the best part of the performance against England, and Yunus Musah was at the heart of that. The 19-year-old was spectacular in all phases of the game, with a number of great early tackles, plus excellent distribution. Musah faded late and needed to be subbed off, just like in the first match against Wales, but he’s clearly better emptying the tank through 75 minutes than trying to extend to 90 minutes,” They wrote.
Arsenal’s big mistake
The Gunners let Musah go when he was just a kid, and we can only imagine how much they’re regretting that decision now.
At the age of just 19, the midfielder is absolutely shining at the World Cup, and with so many years of development ahead of him, we could be talking about one of Europe’s premier midfielders in a few years’ time.
Arsenal have a few players who could be described as ‘the one that got away’ and Musah may be the best of the bunch.
