According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have now approached Ernesto Valverde as the search to replace José Mourinho drags on.

Daniel Levy is beginning to make a slight embarrassment of himself and Spurs in his attempts to hire a new manager.

A lengthy approach for Paulo Fonseca ended with the Portuguese coach left stunned after Tottenham pulled out of negotiations.

Then, Gennaro Gattuso became a candidate, only for the Tottenham fanbase’s reaction to scare Levy into not hiring the Italian.

Now, Valverde has emerged as an option. In fairness, he’s arguably a better choice than Fonseca or Gattuso, as well as others linked with the vacancy.

Pep Guardiola admires Ernesto Valverde

If one of football’s brightest minds in Pep Guardiola rates you, then you’re probably a pretty good coach.

Luckily for Valverde, he is rated by the Spaniard. Very highly, in fact.

Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Guardiola said: “Valverde seems spectacular beyond the great friendship that unites us. Valverde’s team have won two consecutive leagues and they play good football.”

One of the biggest issues with Mourinho was his drab style of football.

As Guardiola states, Valverde tries to ensure his teams play ‘good’ football, so if he can bring an attractive style to north London, that would be a great way to get the supporters onside.

Shouldn’t be difficult to hire Ernesto Valverde

The 57-year-old has been out of work since leaving Barcelona in 2020, so Levy wouldn’t need to pay compensation to hire him.

If Valverde is interested in the move, then it shouldn’t be too difficult to bring him to the Premier League, in our view.

Whatever happens, Levy needs to hurry up and hire someone, as fans are surely getting a bit fed up now.
