Speaking to Marca, Luis Suarez has been discussing Uruguay’s chances at the upcoming World Cup, and he’s been discussing Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez.
Uruguay have had a long list of brilliant number nines in recent years from Diego Forlan and Edinson Cavani to Suarez himself, and now Nunez looks set to take up that mantle as the South American club’s chief attacking threat.
Nunez is being earmarked as Suarez’s replacement for Uruguay, and the 35-year-old is clearly a fan of the Liverpool ace, describing his form this past year as ‘spectacular’ when discussing his Uruguay teammates.

Suarez praises Nunez
The former Barcelona striker had good things to say about Liverpool’s summer signing.
“We have to be proud that it is the fourth consecutive World Cup for these players, and there are some young people who are going for the third, like Josema Giménez. This has great value. Our squad, a mixture of experience and youth, has many conditions, and that has a lot to do with a World Cup,” Suarez said.
“We want to take advantage of, for example, the great moment of Fede [Valverde]; the spectacular year of Darwin [Núñez]; the good moments of Ronald [Araujo], although he was injured; Rodrigo [Bentancur]… They are players who are at a great world level. They make a difference physically and technically. And then there are us, the two or three veterans who may be on the field, in their fourth World Cup.”
Dark horses
Suarez is always going to speak highly of his Uruguay teammates, but when you look at their squad list they have to be considered as dark horses in this upcoming World Cup.
Ronald Araujo and Jose Gimenez are two of the best centre-backs around, Rodrigo Bentancur and Lucas Torreira can compete with any midfield in the world, while Suarez and Nunez will cause problems for every team they come up against.
France, Brazil and Germany may be among the frontrunners for this World Cup, but don’t be shocked if Uruguay make an impact in Qatar.
