The ‘special’ Oscar Gloukh should leave Maccabi Tel Aviv as Rangers battle Borussia Dortmund for the £8 million wonderkid, former Israel international Gil Vermouth tells Sport5.
Now, Israel has produced plenty of good footballers. But not many ‘great’ ones.
Gloukh, then has the makings of a truly generational talent. At the age of just 18, this mercurial, mesmerising number ten is well on his way to following in Yossi Benayoun’s gilded footsteps.
According to the Scottish Sun, Rangers scouted the teen sensation during Israel’s run to the final of the U19 European Championships. Perenial talent-spotters Ajax and Dortmund have shown an interest too, with Maccabi Tel Aviv slapping an £8 million price-tag on Gloukh’s still broadening shoulders.
Rangers like Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Israel wonderkid Oscar Gloukh
“(Before the U19 Euros) I would have told him not to leave Maccabi Tel Aviv,” says Vermouth. “Do another season and then leave.
“Now, I would recommend him to leave.
“If a club signs him and invests in him and takes him on as a project, then there is a chance of success. Gloukh is something special. He needs to examine his options, sit down with his parents and coaches, and decide.”

Gloukh’s father insisted last week that one of the game’s most exciting up-and-coming playmakers was ‘ready’ to make the leap to a major European league. The sky, he adds, ‘is the limit’ for a player of the teenager’s raw talent and fearsome work ethic.
“After (former Liverpool, Chelsea and West Ham ace) Benayoun, I do not remember such a player (coming from Israel),” Vermouth adds.
Gloukh was reluctant to give much aways when asked about his future over the weekend. The baby-faced forward tells N12 that he has no idea what the future holds as things stand.
But perhaps the success of Liel Abada at Celtic could encourage Gloukh to follow in his compatriot’s footsteps.
“A rosy future awaits them,” former Anfield favourite Martin Skrtel says of Gloukh, tipping him for a future ‘in the Premier League and the Champions League’.
