Bernardo Silva has labelled Kylian Mbappe a ‘special’ talent amid ongoing speculation suggesting the Paris Saint-Germain phenomenon could be heading to the Premier League with Liverpool, speaking to L’Equipe.

While the knee-jerk reaction is shrug your shoulders and roll your eyes when stories like this emerge, assuming they are little more than idle paper talk, we have had our fare share of groundbreaking transfer stories in recent seasons.

Be honest, who really expected Neymar to join PSG in a world-record £200 million deal? Who though Cristiano Ronaldo would swap Real Madrid for Juventus?

And who was absolutely convinced that the stories suggesting Lionel Messi was a little miffed at Barcelona were nothing short of baseless fabrication?

Stranger things have certainly happened.

With his contract due to expire in 2022, the prospect of Mbappe leaving the Parc des Princes as early as next summer is feeling less and less fanciful by the week.

So don’t be too surprised if the World Cup winner joins former Monaco team-mate Bernardo Silva in England’s north west.

“Kylian Mbappé…he was already a special player at Monaco when I was there, and he’s also a friend. If (Manchester City) could get him, it wouldn’t be bad, eh?” the Portugal international says.

If Mbappe does catch a flight across the Channel, however, Liverpool feels like his most likely destination.

Le Parisien reports that Jurgen Klopp’s Premier League champions are one of two frontrunners for a man who will reject the chance to extend his rapidly expiring contract at PSG.

Unfortunately for Liverpool, Real Madrid, Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid, are in the other corner. And Mbappe has made no secret of his lifelong admiration for the Blancos boss…
