Gary Neville gave a ‘special mention’ to Harvey Elliott during Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Anfield on Saturday, as he told Sky Sports Premier League (28/08/21 at 7:25 pm)

The 18-year-old started back-to-back Premier League games for Liverpool and Neville thinks he had a ‘fantastic’ match’.

Elliott’s loan spell at Blackburn Rovers last season has done him the world of good because the quick-footed midfielder is fitting right in on Merseyside.

It just goes to show how well thought of he is by Liverpool, and especially Klopp, because he is throwing him straight into the deep end.

During Neville’s commentary stint for Sky, this is what he had to say about Elliott.

“He has been good,” said Neville. “Bright on the ball. He injects some pace into the game when he picks it up.

“I am going to go Christensen as Man of the Match. I think he has been absolutely fantastic. Chelsea have defended brilliantly in the second half.

“A special mention for Harvey Elliott for Liverpool. He has played a fantastic match. But it had to be a Chelsea defender.”

A lot of Liverpool fans have been calling for the club to add some more freshness and attacking depth to their squad this summer.

But it seems as though Klopp is putting his faith in a young teenager rather than spending £100 million like certain other clubs have done.

And given how Klopp has transformed and helped develop someone like Trent Alexnder-Arnold’s game, then the ex-Fulham academy product has a bright future ahead of him because he is in very safe hands.

It’s going to be interesting to see, as the games mount up, especially in the Champions League, just how far Klopp pushes Elliott because this is now effectively his first full season in the big time.
