Everton and West Ham United have been linked with Adam Armstrong and Blackburn Rovers boss Tony Mowbray believes the striker showed flashes of ‘Premier League quality’ at the weekend, as he told the Lancashire Telegraph.
Three years after Newcastle accepted a bid of around £2 million for the Tyneside-born striker, it seems only a matter of time before Armstrong is back in the big time with a point to prove.
The Sun reports that the jet-heeled forward has admirers at both Everton and West Ham.
David Moyes has apparently held talks with Mowbray about a move for Armstrong in recent weeks. And his performances in the Championship certainly suggest that, like Jarrod Bowen, he can make the step up with ease (LancsLive).
The former England U21 international hit his 20th goal of the season with a sublime lob against Barnsley last week.
Although he wasted a glorious chance to take his tally to 21, missing a penalty in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, Mowbray was still full of praise for his talismanic forward.
“I thought Armstrong was Premier League quality. He looked really special, I thought, yet he missed the penalty,” Mowbray said at full-time.
A run of four consecutive defeats means Blackburn are now ten points adrift of the play-off places; a huge disappointment given that they have the second-most prolific striker in the league in their ranks.
So, with another season outside the top flight looming, it feels inevitable now that Armstrong will have to bid farewell to Ewood Park if he wants to prove himself on the biggest of stages.
