Leeds United ace Brenden Aaronson has spoken out on why he feels Manchester City star Erling Haaland is ‘special’. The striker scored twice as the Citizens won 3-1 at Elland Road.

Haaland is now the fastest player to reach 20 goals in the Premier League having taken just 14 games. The 22-year-old has smashed the record that Kevin Phillips previously held after he needed 21 fixtures. Andrew Cole is now third after requiring 23 appearances, per Opta.

Manchester City only signed Haaland this June after triggering a £51m release clause in the Norwegian’s contract at Borussia Dortmund. He has since found the back of the net during all but three of his 14 Premier League appearances. He has also hit three hat-tricks already.

Leeds managed to deny Haaland a fourth treble of his debut Premier League season as the Whites frustrated Manchester City. Jesse Marsch’s side produced a valiant performance to deny the reigning champions until the start of first-half stoppage-time when Rodri scored.

Haaland then improved the Citizens’ lead on 51’ and 64 minutes before Pascal Struijk got a goal back for Leeds. But the forward did not celebrate either goal in the city where he was born in 2000. Yet he would not waste two chances to strike when set up by Jack Grealish.

Leeds ace Aaronson has spoken out on what makes Man City star Haaland ‘special’

Leeds now sit two points above the Premier League relegation zone after Aaronson and co lost to Haaland’s Manchester City. Although Marsch’s team do hold one game in hand over the five sides below them in the table. A win can shoot Leeds up from 15th into 12th place.

Marsch can also take some pleasure from his squad’s performance and refusal to lie down against Pep Guardiola’s ranks. But Aaronson left the match stunned by Haaland’s desire to score and flooded praise at the Manchester City striker’s feet after beating his Leeds team.

“Haaland has a hunger to score goals,” Aaronson told BBC Sport. “He made a 30-40 yard run to score a tap in. He has a want for goals and not a lot of players have it, but he does and that’s special. For us, we just have to focus on the next game and get after it.”
