Aston Villa goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez, has stated that he ‘only knew’ about Arsenal and Manchester United when growing up as a young kid in Argentina, as he told Ben Foster’s GK channel.
The 29-year-old added that he never knew about England’s famous Wembley stadium, but he did know about the ‘special’ Man United and Arsenal.
For Martinez, he represented Arsenal for a number of years before joining Villa on a permanent basis a number of seasons ago.
And it would have meant a lot to him when he kept a clean sheet at Old Trafford during Villa’s 1-0 against Manchester United in the Premier League earlier on in the campaign.
Nonetheless, when Martinez was asked about his favourite away grounds, this is the response he provided.
“If you have to say one in England, then I will say Wembley,” said Martinez. “For the history of it.
On whether he knew about Wembley growing up: “No, I only knew Arsenal and Man United. Old Trafford.
“When I was young, watching Man United and Arsenal, I loved those stadiums, so when I go to play at Man United. It’s special and (even better) to keep a clean sheet.”

Upon Martinez’s return to the Emirates this season, he got a bit of a hostile reception from the home crowd.
Arsenal thrashed an out-of-sorts Aston Villa 3-0 on that evening, with the two teams to meet again later on this month.
At the time of Martinez’s departure from north London, the Arsenal fans would have felt that they were losing a top keeper and they were right given that the Argentina international is now one of the best in the business and recently won the Copa America.
But, the Gunners now have their very own top talent in Aaron Ramsdale, who has probably been one of the signings of the season.
