Aaron Cervantes has been praised for joining ‘world-class’ Rangers with American outfit Orange County bidding a fond farewell to their highly-rated goalkeeper, as reported by Los Angeles Daily News.
A whole host of Gers players have enjoyed loan spells under the California sun in recent times, but Cervantes is the first to move in the other direction.
Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow giants agreed a deal to sign the youngster this week with Craig Mulholland, the head of Rangers’ academy, hailing the ‘outstanding potential’ of the club’s newest signing.
You’d be forgiven for assuming Orange County would be disappointed to lose one of their prized assets but the reality, it seems, is something very different.
“Today is a landmark moment for everyone at Orange County SC with the official transfer of Aaron to Rangers,” President of Soccer Operations and General Manager Oliver Wyss said with pride.

“Aaron was the first local, young Orange County player that we signed to a professional contract, and he laid the foundation for our pathway and future young talents at OCSC with his professionalism and work ethic.
“Aaron is a special young man and seeing him transfer to Rangers, our world-class partner club. is gratifying beyond words!”
Cervantes himself admits that Europe was a dream destination. No wonder he is feeling rather good about himself after putting pen to paper with one of the biggest and best supported football clubs in Britain.
Allan McGregor and Jon McLaughlin are Rangers’ first-choice goalkeepers but, with the two shot-stoppers aged 38 and 33 respectively, it makes sense for Gerrard and co to plan for the future.
