Jermaine Jenas has said to BBC Sport that he believes Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tanguy Ndombele has now elevated himself into the same category as Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane.
Son and Kane are widely recognised as Tottenham’s two biggest stars, with the pair both in great form this season.
But Jenas thinks that Ndombele is such a talent that he is actually comparable to the high profile Spurs pair.
“There is a reason Mourinho loves players like Eric Dier and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg because they give him a minimum of 7/10 every week. But a lot of the others are more than just reliable, they are special – like Harry Kane and Son Heung-min of course,” Jenas said.
“Ndombele is another one in that bracket. I watched him play for Lyon against Manchester City in 2018 and, with his technical ability, intelligent passing and physical power, he always had the potential to be one of the very best, he just took time to adjust to what Mourinho asks for.”
Ndombele has certainly enjoyed a remarkable turnaround at Tottenham this season.
The Frenchman actually was linked with a move away from Spurs in the summer, after a difficult first season, but he has fought his way back into Mourinho’s plans.
Ndombele now seems to be one of the players who Mourinho trusts the most, and he has firmly established himself as a key member of Tottenham’s first choice starting line-up.
Ndombele was once again in brilliant form in midweek, as Spurs strolled to a 4-0 win over Ludogorets in the Europa League.
