According to a recent report from Calciomercato, Newcastle were ready to blow AC Milan out of the water in their bid to sign Romain Favre.
However, by the looks of it, not even the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia’s riches will be able to lure him to St James’ Park.
What’s the story?
Well, Faivre himself has poured cold water on a move to Newcastle.
As quoted by Fabrizio Romano, the 23-year-old said: “I’m getting ready for Milan because when Paolo Maldini calls you… it’s something special. I saw the Derby and I wanted to be there.”
Clearly, the Frenchman is tempted by a move to the San Siro, which is a big blow for the Magpies and their hopes of signing Faivre.
It is believed that Brest want £16m for their No.21, which surely wouldn’t be a problem for Newcastle under Amanda Staveley and the PIF.
Unfortunately for the Toon Army, it seems the history and aura of AC Milan has left Faivre desperate to join them.
What are Newcastle missing out on in Romain Faivre?

Newcastle fans should be upset if Faivre does join AC Milan instead of them, as he’s a seriously exciting talent.
The attacking midfielder has scored four goals in 12 Ligue 1 appearances this season, while also providing four assists.
Ligue 1’s official website – who compared him to Hatem Ben Arfa – wrote a feature on Faivre last season, in which they revealed he was outdoing Neymar in terms of dribbling statistics.

The Brazilian is one of the best dribblers on the planet, so that speaks volumes about Faivre’s ability.
In that respect, Newcastle could’ve had another Ben Arfa to compliment Allan Saint-Maximin in attack.
Unfortunately, unless something drastic happens, it seems Faivre has his heart set on a move to AC Milan.
