Tim Sherwood told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (06/03/21 at 1:20 pm) that only Fabinho, James Milner and Jordan Henderson have ‘personality’ for Liverpool.
The ex-Aston Villa boss thinks Jurgen Klopp needs to speak to Liverpool’s transfer guru, Michael Edwards, so he can bring in players who have similar characters to the above trio.
With injuries hitting Liverpool hard at the back this season, their Premier League title defence has gone up like a puff of smoke and now there are serious worries that they might not even clinch a top-four finish.
With that ‘monster mentality’ needed at Liverpool this season, but for different reasons, Sherwood shared why those ‘personalties’ are now needed.
“Who’s got the personalities? Milner, Henderson and Fabinho into midfield,” said Sherwood. “Other than that, they are void of personalties.
“He needs to find that. He needs to speak to Michael Edwards, who is the head of recruitment.
“He needs to say ‘Michael, when things aren’t going well, we need a bit more personality in this team. It’s okay when they are doing well’.
“They need to find it and they need to give him a little bit more rather than Henderson and Milner, who are coming to the end.”
These are testing times for those on Merseyside and there is sure to be some interesting situations facing Klopp during this upcoming summer.
From Mo Salah’s future to whether another centre-back comes into the club, it does seem as though whatever is decided then it will have big bearings on the next campaign.
But in truth, all Liverpool fans want to see is Virgil van Dijk, Henderson, Joe Gomez and Fabinho all on the pitch at the same time because it’s what their fans are craving the most.
