Everton reportedly want £60.1 million for the defender and have also been linked with Mauricio Lemos.
Everton’s John Stones
Last night saw John Stones showcase just how impressive he can be when he is focused and determined.
The Everton defender was magnificent against Australia last night as England won 2-1.
He has had a tough season at Goodison Park but has always shone when in action for his country.
England’s John Stones in action
His future at Everton appears to be in doubt – with plenty of the Premier League’s big boys in the hunt for the player.
However, Barcelona have reportedly now put Stones at the top of their wishlist for the summer.
Mundo Deportivo, who tend to be in the know about Barca matters, report today that Barca will make an approach for Stones tomorrow as they tentatively look into his signature.
Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Las Palmas’ Mauricio Lemos in action.
However, the report claims Everton want €80 million (£60.1 million) for the player. That fee seems unlikely considering Stones’ performances last season, not to mention the fact this price-tag would make him the world’s most expensive defender.
Interestingly the report also claims that Barca are considering Mauricio Lemos of Las Palmas as a cheaper alternative, should that price-tag not come down.
Everton’s John Stones looks dejected
Spanish publication Sport suggested that the Toffees were keen to bring him to the club in a £7.8 million deal this summer – but Barcelona are also keen.
So if Barca can’t get Stones, they seem likely to bring in his potential replacement – all-round bad news for Everton fans.
