West Ham United are reportedly closing in on Celta Vigo attacker Maxi Gomez.
According to Spanish outlet El Desmarques, West Ham United have paid the €50million (£45million) release clause in Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez’s contract.
The Hammers have added eight new signings this summer, as Lukasz Fabianski, Ryan Fredericks, Issa Diop, Fabian Balbuena, Jack Wilshere, Felipe Anderson, Xande Silva and Andriy Yarmolenko have all arrived.
However, signing a centre forward has become a key priority for West Ham, and whilst The Mirror note that Arsenal’s Lucas Perez is set for a bargain £4million move to the London Stadium, it seems that a bigger deal is also on the radar.
El Desmarques report that, after failing with a €30millIon (£26.8million) bid for Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez last week, West Ham have now decided to pay his release clause – which stands at a staggering €50million (£45million).
Gomez is now seemingly set for a move to East London before Thursday’s transfer deadline, and will allegedly earn around £69,000-a-week once he seals his move – around ten times what he currently makes in Galicia.
An agreement was allegedly reached on Monday, and Gomez is set to travel over to England to seal his move, with West Ham paying big money to land the Uruguayan.
Gomez, 21, joined Celta from Defensor Sporting last summer, and enjoyed a superb season, hitting 17 goals in 36 La Liga appearances, earning a spot in Uruguay’s World Cup squad.
Gomez stands at 6ft 1in tall and has impressed as a robust and clinical centre forward, and gives Chilean boss Manuel Pellegrini another South American addition after landing Paraguayan Balbuena and Brazilian Anderson.
