Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly failed with a bid for Real Madrid’s Mateo Kovacic.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, Tottenham Hotspur have failed with a bid of €25million (£22million) for Real Madrid playmaker Mateo Kovacic.
Spurs haven’t signed a player yet this summer after finishing second in the Premier League last season, but their bank balance has been boosted by the sale of right back Kyle Walker to Manchester City on Friday.

Mauricio Pochettino should now have some money to spend this summer, and another midfielder could be on his wish list as he looks to bolster his squad.
Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele have been strong in the middle of the park, but with Eric Dier regularly dropping back to play as a centre half, and Harry Winks currently out injured, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see Pochettino move for another midfielder.
Now, Spanish newspaper AS report that Spurs have offered a deal worth €25million (£22million) for Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic, but that bid has been rejected.
It’s claimed that Kovacic doesn’t want to leave the Santiago Bernabeu this summer and is keen to fight for his place despite intense competition for places under manager Zinedine Zidane.

Zidane has the likes of Casemiro, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric, Isco, Marco Asensio, Marcos Llorente and new signing Dani Ceballos at his disposal in central midfield, meaning Kovacics place is in some doubt.
Kovacic may want to stay in the Spanish capital for now, but Tottenham would be wise to keep an eye on his situation and potentially try again later in the transfer window, given that the Croatian international barely featured last season, and could find himself in a similar situation this term.
