Spanish press: Spurs firmly in race to sign Malaga’s Sandro, manager labels him special

Tottenham are reportedly battling Sevilla and Valencia for Malaga’s Sandro.

According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Tottenham are one of three teams showing a strong interest in signing Malaga forward Sandro this summer.

Spurs, who are gunning for the Premier League title, will be looking for attacking reinforcements this summer, given that their additions from last summer have made little impact this season.

Moussa Sissoko, Georges-Kevin Nkoudou and Vincent Janssen have failed to impress since joining Spurs, and manager Mauricio Pochettino should be in the market for another attacker.

Now, Sport claim that Tottenham are one of the most important teams in the race to sign Malaga forward Sandro, alongside Spanish sides Sevilla and Villarreal.

Sandro, 21, was on the books with Barcelona following a 2009 move from hometown club Las Palmas, but struggled to nail down a first-team place at the Camp Nou, scoring seven times in 32 games.

Last summer, Sandro moved on to Malaga, and he has been a sensation this season. With ten goals in 25 appearances, Sandro has been outstanding for the Andalusians, but his contract situation means a summer exit could be on the cards.

Sport claim that Sandro’s release clause decreases to around €6million (£5.1million) this summer; a bargain fee which was actually higher in January, as Malaga didn’t want to lose Sandro – who can play out wide or up front – in the middle of the season.

Now potentially available for a bargain price, Sandro could leave La Rosaleda this summer, prompting manager Michel to offer his thoughts on the attacker’s future with Malaga.

Michel, as quoted by Sport, claimed that Sandro is a special player, adding that he would give him some of his own contract if he didn’t have children to feed – and his comments may well be enough for Tottenham to attempt a move this summer.
