Whilst Ashley did back Benitez by signing Matz Sels, Jesus Gamez, DeAndre Yedlin, Ciaran Clark, Grant Hanley, Achraf Lazaar, Isaac Hayden, Mohamed Diame, Matt Ritchie, Christian Atsu, Dwight Gayle and Daryl Murphy last summer, the Magpies were worryingly quiet in January.
Benitez will need considerable backing this summer, and the Daily Mail reported on Monday that Newcastle are interested in a move to sign Southampton attacker Jay Rodriguez this summer.

Now, Spanish newspaper AS are today carrying a fascinating quote from manager Benitez, which claims that Newcastle will have a budget of around £70million to spend.
