Celtic are reportedly keen on Swiss international Fabian Schar.
According to El Desmarque in Spain, Celtic are interested in snapping up Deportivo La Coruna defender Fabian Schar this summer.
The Bhoys have secured a seventh straight league title, and could make it a second domestic treble in a row with a Scottish Cup final win over Motherwell next weekend.
Whilst Celtic continue to dominate domestically, landing improvements for European competitions is paramount, and another centre back may be wanted even after landing Marvin Compper and Jack Hendry in January.
A centre back with international and European experience must be a priority, and El Desmarque in Spain now report that Celtic want to land Deportivo La Coruna defender Fabian Schar.
Schar, 26, made his name with Basel in his native Switzerland before heading to Hoffenheim, and he left the German side for Deportivo last summer in a bid to play more first-team football.
Deportivo suffered relegation from La Liga this season, and it’s now claimed that Schar has a €4million (£3.5million) release clause in his deal upon relegation to the second tier.
That would put him in Celtic’s budget, and he is exactly the calibre of defensive signing Celtic need right now, with the prospect of playing in the Champions League again no doubt appealing.
Schar is set to feature for Switzerland at the World Cup this summer, and Celtic may need to move quickly in order to secure his signature before other clubs join the race.
