Celtic are reportedly keen on Celta Vigo-owned striker Borja Iglesias.
According to Spanish newspaper El Periodico de Aragon, Celtic are rivalling Swansea City for the signature of Real Zaragoza loanee Borja Iglesias ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Bhoys may be in the market for a new striker this summer, given that Moussa Dembele is expected to leave the club and loanee Odsonne Edouard hasn’t quite done enough to justify a permanent deal just yet.
Celtic may well be linked with a host of strikers between now and the opening of the summer transfer window, but the latest reports in Spain suggest that Real Zaragoza hitman Borja Iglesias is a target for Brendan Rodgers and co.
Iglesias, 25, is on loan from Celta Vigo with the second tier side, and has hit 13 goals in all competitions this term, as well as adding four assists for Zaragoza in what has been an impressive campaign.
Major battle for Celtic
Iglesias spent time with Valencia and Villarreal before heading to Celta in 2013, spending most of his time in their B team with 75 goals in 146 games, but making just two appearances for the Galician side’s first team.
The 6ft 2in striker possesses great strength and aerial ability, fitting the mould as a classic target man – and Celtic may face a battle for his signature this summer, with a race on to sign him given that there is no purchase option in his loan move and he won’t stay in the second tier, making a summer move likely.
It’s claimed that Swansea City are also keen on Iglesias, despite their ill-fated deal for Borja Baston in 2016, and a host of English clubs are also thought to be keen on the Spaniard after his impressive displays this summer.
Add in that EFE reported last summer that Barcelona wanted him for their B team, and Iglesias appears to be in demand this summer despite his lack of football with Celta, and Celtic may hope that the lure of European football can help them see off major competition.
