Spanish media outlet Estadio Deportivo have criticised on-loan Tottenham star Bryan Gil for his performance on Thursday night in the Europa League – despite Sevilla beating Fenerbahce in the first leg of their clash, winning 2-0.
Gil, 22, was handed his seventh appearance for La Liga side Sevilla since joining the club on loan from Spurs in January. His second loan move away from the North London club – after moving to Spurs from Sevilla in the summer of 2021.
But much like his Valencia spell during the second half of last season, Gil is struggling to provide an impact in the final third. In 17 outings for Valencia last term, he failed to score and managed just one assist. It is a similar story this time.
Starting five of his seven games for Sevilla since January, Gil has scored one goal – and failed to create anything. Just one goal involvement since his move. He lasted 70 minutes on Thursday night, before being withdrawn by Sevilla.
Estadio Deportivo gave him a rating of 6/10, reporting: “Did not have much presence in attack. He tried, but his crosses from the left wing had no recipient. He got more animated on the inside in the second half before being substituted.”

Spanish media criticise Tottenham star Gil for Europa League performance
Gil really needs to start showing Tottenham, Sevilla, or any other interested parties that he has what it takes to shine at this level. While he struggled in the final third at Valencia, though, he was well-liked and Valencia wanted to keep him.
He is clearly doing enough to convince Jorge Sampaoli to start him in big games – but Gil has got to start scoring, or laying on assists if there is any chance he can save his Tottenham career. Another frustrating night, despite the win.
