Over the summer, Tottenham and Sevilla were involved in a deal which saw both Erik Lamela and Bryan Gil move clubs.

It was effectively a swap deal, although Spurs also paid £21.6m for the 20-year-old winger – now, Estadio Deportivo believe they were robbed.

What’s the story?

Well, the Spanish media are heaping praise on Monchi – Sevilla’s Sporting Director – for his negotiating skills.

Contrastingly, they are bashing Fabio Paratici, who they claim was the victim of a robbery this summer, as were Tottenham.

Why are Estadio Deportivo writing this? Well, it’s mainly because of how COVID-19 impacted the market.

The Spanish news outlet state that, before Gil’s exit, Sevilla’s footballing plans were on ice due to finances.

However, they have now been accelerated after the sale of the forward, who is described as a ‘bench’ player.

Furthermore, it has a lot to do with how well Lamela has started in Spain.

The Argentine has scored three goals in six La Liga outings so far, while also providing one assist.

By the sounds of it, Sevilla are very happy with their business.

Tottenham did well to sign Bryan Gil

From our point of view, we’re ignoring Estadio Deportivo.

Right now, you can understand why Sevilla are patting themselves on the back.

However, Spurs have definitely got the upper hand of the deal.

In four years, Lamela will be 33 and surely a shell of the player he is now.

In Gil’s case, the Spaniard will potentially be one of Europe’s best, if not close to that level – he has a scary amount of potential.

He hasn’t been compared to Neymar for no reason.

Sit tight, Tottenham fans – in terms of the bigger picture, Spurs will win this transfer battle.
