Denis Suarez has raved about Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah on OneFootball, and has said that he wanted Celta de Vigo to sign him when he left Leeds United in the middle of the season.

Nketiah joined Leeds on a season-long loan deal from Arsenal in the summer of 2019.

However, lack of regular playing time at Elland Road saw the 21-year-old’s loan spell at the West Yorkshire outfit cut short, and he was recalled by Arsenal in January 2020.

Suarez, who spent the second half of the 2018-19 campaign on loan at Arsenal from Barcelona, has said that he wanted his current club Celta to sign Nketiah in the January transfer window.

The 26-year-old Spain international midfielder – who joined Celta from Barcelona in the summer of 2019 for an initial transfer fee reported by Sport to be worth €12.9 million (£11.74 million) – belives that Nketiah will be a success at Arsenal in the future.

Suarez said on OneFootball, as transcribed by Football.London: “In fact, I remember talking to Antonio Chaves, Celta’s Sporting Director, and telling him that there was a very promising striker coming through at Arsenal.

“He went on loan to Leeds but things didn’t work out. And I said if he wanted a striker, he should call him.

“Now he’s slowly becoming a regular even if not as a starter, he’s having minutes to make an impact.

“It seems like he could be important in the coming years at Arsenal and they should take care of him because he is very talented.”

Stats

According to WhoScored, Nketiah has made seven starts and five substitute appearances in the Premier League for Arsenal since his return from Leeds, scoring two goals in the process.

The striker has also scored two goals in three FA Cup ties for Mikel Arteta’s side, according to WhoScored.
