Jesse Lingard believes if he can help Derby County win promotion to the Premier League, it will help him achieve his dream of regular first-team football with Manchester United.

Talented Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard has told the Derby Telegraph promotion with Derby County can help him seal his ambition of becoming a regular first-team player at Old Trafford.

The 22-year-old attack-minded midfielder has joined the East Midland’s side on loan from United until the end of the season and has told Rams supporters that he hopes to have a big impact on their quest for Premier League football.

‘’I want to play for Manchester United,’’ Lingard was quoted in the Derbyshire Telegraph. ‘’That is my aim and by coming on loan to Derby and helping them to achieve their dream of getting into the Premier League, hopefully, that will help me achieve my dream as well.’’

Does Lingard have what it takes to become a regular first-team player at United?

Lingard signed a new three-and-a-half year contract with United before leaving on loan, so it does show that Louis van Gaal has a lot of respect for him as a player and sees him as one for the future.

At the start of the season, the attacking midfielder was placed at right wing back in a 3-5-2 system which is testament to the England Under-21 midfielder’s ability and versatility even at the highest level.

However, soon after game had hit the half-hour mark, it turned into a nightmare for Lingard who went off with a knee injury that kept him side-lined for several months.

Now back and fit, the loan move to the Championship’s second placed side seems like a good fit for a player looking to prove a point in order to player at the highest level next season. If Lingard can perform to a standard that impresses the former Dutch national coach, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Derby promoted as a result.
