The Tractor Boys have been given permission to speak to the 43-year-old by Shrewsbury Town.
Ipswich Town fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news that the club has been given permission to speak to Shrewsbury Town boss Paul Hurst about the vacant managerial position at Portman Road.
Hurst has transformed the League One outfit from relegation fodder into promotion candidates during his 18 months in charge, and guided them to the play-off final this season; a match they lost 2-1 to Rotherham.
Ipswich’s official Twitter account today said that the club has agreed a compensation package with Shrewsbury and the East Anglian Daily Times reports that personal talks will begin once Hurst has returned from a family holiday.
The Tractor Boys had been in talks with former St. Mirren boss Jack Ross, but the Scot decided on a move to newly-relegated Sunderland last week.

While Hurst may not be the biggest household name, it is refreshing to see Ipswich give a young, home-grown manager the chance of proving himself at a higher level.
Hurst managed to turn Shrewsbury’s fortunes in just 18 months, and Ipswich fans will hope that he can do the same at Portman Road after an inconsistent 2017/18 Championship campaign which saw them finish in 12th.
