Tottenham Hotspur could consider moving on 23-year-old German international Lewis Holtby after less than 12 months at White Hart Lane, according to a report.

Lewis Holtby could be one of the victims of Tim Sherwood’s Spurs revolution at White Hart Lane, and The Mirror are reporting there is strong interest from his homeland.

Holtby has endured a underwhelming experience in London after struggling to hold a regular first team slot down, under both Andre Villa-Boas and Tim Sherwood. Earlier in the month he commented on his future and declined to rule out a return to Germany, sounding out Schalke as his favoured destination:

”I would never rule out a return to the Bundesliga, especially Schalke, where I had a great time”

But would losing the talented midfielder be a poor decision by Tim Sherwood and Tottenham?

From a young age the player was tipped for the very top, being an instrumental part of all the German national youth sides and he made his debut for the full side just two months after his 20th Birthday.

When Tottenham Hotspur signed Holtby, not 12 months ago, it was put to manager Andre Villa-Boas that he may have just sealed the ‘deal of the century’.

So why after such promise are Tottenham looking to give up on him so quickly? He may not have been the signing he was made out to be just yet, but he has only just turned 23 and there are parts of his game that have showed his true potential ability.

In Premier League and European competitions this season he has made 9 starts, including 9 sub appearances. Despite that, he has recorded some very good statistics.

He is a proven an all-round midfielder, both impressing defensively and in attack but passing is the main art of his game.

He has playing 529 accurate passes from 622 attempts, including two assists from 22 created goal goalscoring opportunities.

Aside from that, he has registered 27 attempts on goal, scoring twice, proving just as effective defensively, making 24 tackles and 17 interceptions.

It does seem unlikely that he will still be at White Hart Lane in February and BetVictor are taking no chances, offering a meagre 6/4 on the player returning to Germany

I do feel that it could be a mistake for Spurs to allow Holtby to leave so soon, and unless a very good offer was made for the player I would keep hold of him and see if he flourishes in his second or even third year at the club.
