Henry Nwosu believes Liverpool star Jordon Ibe shouldn’t be begged to play for Nigeria and Manchester City youngster Kelechi Iheanacho is a better prospect.
Ex-Nigeria international Henry Nwosu told Nigerian publication Punchng that Manchester City attacker Kelechi Iheanacho is a better player than Liverpool’s Jordon Ibe.
The 51-year-old, who played for Nigeria between the years of 1980 and 1991, hit out at players that didn’t want to pledge their allegiance to the Super Eagles in the hope of being picked by a better-placed country.
‘’If Jordon Ibe and the others don’t feel like playing for Nigeria, good luck to them,’’ Nwosu was quoted as saying on Punchng. ‘’They won’t be the first to deny Nigeria, but at the end of the day, they will regret it.
‘’If we give it a push, try to get them to play for the Super Eagles, and they are still proving stubborn, we should let them go.
‘’We have an abundance of good players in this country. To play for your country is most important. Who said Ibe is better than Kelechi Iheanacho? I don’t think so. You can’t say until both of them are put on opposing sides and their performances are measured.’’
Is Kelechi Iheanacho better than Jordon Ibe?
Although Iheanacho is regarded as one of City’s brightest prospects, it’s difficult to suggest that he is a better player than Ibe due to his lack of first-team football.
The Liverpool starlet has had two successful loan spells in the Championship – first with Birmingham City and then with Derby County – and has recently earned huge praise for his performances after breaking into the Reds first team.
Iheanacho, who won the Golden Ball at the 2013 FIFA Under-17s tournament, may look to take that step next season but will need to show a lot of ability to prove that he is on a similar level to the former Derby loanee.
Nevertheless, whether he is as good as Ibe or not, the young attacker certainly looks a very good prospect for the future of Nigerian football.
