Former Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong has told The Scottish Sun that he is finding playing in the Premier League with Southampton exciting.

Armstrong joined Premier League club Southampton from Scottish Premiership side Celtic in the summer transfer window.

According to The Scottish Sun, the Southampton paid Celtic a transfer fee of £7 million in order to secure the services of the 26-year-old midfielder.

The Scotland international has played just 66 minutes in the Premier League so far this season and has made only one start, according to WhoScored.

Armstrong, though, is enjoying himself in the Premier League and finds playing in the top flight of English football exciting, and he does not seem to have any regret over his exit from Celtic.

“It’s a fresh challenge I am looking forward to in the next couple of years,” Armstrong told The Scottish Sun. “You could say we’re up against a Belgium every week down there.

“That’s part of the attraction of going to the Premier League. It’s testing yourself against the best.

“That’s the only way you can improve — training and competing against the best every week. It’s exciting.”

Stepping up

The Premier League is leagues above the Scottish Premiership, and it will take Armstrong a while to adapt to the top flight of English football and to get used to the intense competition.

There is no doubt, though, that the 26-year-old midfielder can be a success in the Premier League and establish himself as an important player for Southampton in the coming months.
