Dusan Tadic believes Nathan Redmond is good enough for England.
Nathan Redmond celebrates scoring Southampton’s fourth goal
Southampton winger Nathan Redmond has been backed for a call-up to the full England squad by team-mate Dusan Tadic.
The Serbian was full of praise for the youngster, as reported by the Daily Star, after Southampton’s 4-3 victory at Watford in which Redmond scored twice, including what turned out to be the winning goal.
“He [Redmond] is learning every day,” Tadic said. “He is a good age and in future for sure he will be very good player for England.
“Would I pick Nathan and Ryan Bertrand in the England squad? Yes, for sure. I think they have the quality for that.”
Ryan Bertrand could soon linking up with Redmond for country as well as club
Bertrand has won ten England caps already and came off the bench in England’s penultimate game against Malta but a call-up for Redmond would be his first.
He has however been capped 34 times by England under-21s – only James Milner has more caps in history – scoring nine goals in that time.
Many of those caps came when the current England boss Gareth Southgate was in change of the under-21s, so Redmond is a clearly a player on the manager’s radar.
His man-of-the-match performance at Watford followed a fine display in the EFL Cup final a week earlier and he looks more comfortable playing on left wing but with a license to roam, having been deployed as a stirrer earlier in the season.
The arrival of Manolo Gabbiadini, a focal point in attack, has also contributed to an upturn in Redmond’s form and he now has six goals for Saints since joining from Norwich in the summer.
