West Ham United are reportedly interested in signing the Southampton star.
According to a report from Sky Sports, West Ham have identified Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina as the ideal replacement for Pedro Obiang, should the Spaniard leave the London Stadium for Sampdoria this summer.
The 26-year-old joined the Hammers from Sampdoria in the summer of 2015, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £4.3 million, and he has gone on to become a really consistent performer for the club.
Saints star Lemina would be a massive upgrade for West Ham, though.
The 24-year-old Gabon international joined Southampton from Juventus in the summer of 2017, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £18.1 million, and he showed glimpses of his outstanding potential last season.
He is an outstanding footballer, and possesses exceptional technique, as well as being wonderfully cool and composed when in possession of the football.
The 11-capped Gabon international has extensive experience of playing at the very highest level, having spent time with Marseille and Juventus, and he would certainly help add more fluidity to West Ham’s play through the middle of the park.
Whether the Saints will entertain the idea of selling Lemina to a Premier League rival is questionable, but the Hammers should test the waters by making an enquiry for his services nevertheless.
