Wolverhampton Wanderers have been linked with a move for Southampton’s Sam Gallagher this summer.
Given Sam Gallagher’s lack of Premier League experience, it may not be a surprise if Southampton were seriously considering letting the 21-year-old leave on loan during this window to enable him to get more first-team football under his belt.
However, perhaps the Saints’ inability to score in their opening day draw with Swansea City should convince Mauricio Pellegrino to keep the forward at St Mary’s during the coming campaign.

The stalemate with the Swans meant that Southampton have now failed to score in their last six home league games, and that was despite BBC Sport reporting that they had 29 attempts on goal during the game.
The fact that they managed to put just two of those attempts on target should highlight that despite Manolo Gabbiadini’s blistering start following his January move, Pellegrino simply cannot let the window shut without strengthening his options further.
As well as perhaps targeting another striker, Pellegrino should also perhaps consider allowing Gallagher – who is reportedly being pursued by Wolves and some of their Championship rivals, according to the Express and Star – the chance to show what he can do at the highest level.
The former Plymouth trainee was very impressive during his loan spell at Blackburn last term, scoring 11 times, and that return should arguably be enough to convince the manager to now give him a chance – even if that chance comes in next week’s Carabao Cup clash against the team that wants to sign him, Wolves.
