The Manchester United full-back is a reported transfer target for Southampton.

Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino will surely be looking to bolster his options during the January transfer window, with his side making an underwhelming start to their 2017/18 Premier League campaign.
One rumoured transfer target for the Argentine is Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw, with the Mirror claiming that the 22-year-old has his heart set on a return to St Mary’s.
Southampton would be best served in avoiding a move for their former player, however, and focusing all of their efforts on keeping hold of Ryan Bertrand.

The 28-year-old has been one of the south coast outfit’s best and most consistent players, since moving to St Mary’s from Chelsea on a permanent deal in February 2015.
The Mirror claim that the left-back is a key target for Manchester City in January, but the Saints must fight tooth and nail to keep hold of the 17-capped England international.
Bertrand offers far more from both a defensive and offensive perspective than Shaw, and despite the fact that the United ace is six years younger than the Southampton man, it would seem like a step backwards for the south coast side, should they sanction the 28-year-old’s exit.

And with the opening of the January transfer window just around the corner, the Southampton hierarchy must keep in mind that the best business they could do will be to keep hold of one of their prized assets.
