The Athletic’s David Ornstein has reported that Southampton are now ‘exploring’ the chance to sign West Ham United-linked defender Michael Keane from Everton.
Recently, journalist Peter O’Rourke (via GiveMeSport) had stated that Keane was open to joining West Ham.
O’Rourke had also told GiveMeSport that David Moyes is a huge admirer of the now-Southampton-linked centre-back.
This season, Michael Keane has been on the periphery of things at Everton, which explains why he has been in the news regarding a potential exit.
With Conor Coady and James Tarwowski becoming the club’s first-choice central defensive pairing this season, the £30 million (Sky Sports) man has played a mere 22 minutes of Premier League football.
No wonder the likes of West Ham United and now, Southampton are keen on signing Keane.
At West Ham, both Nayef Aguerd and Kurt Zouma are known to be extremely injury-prone.
As for Angelo Ogbonna and Craig Dawson, the pair could leave on a free transfer in the summer due to their expiring deals.
Keeping these factors in mind, West Ham were seemingly interested in signing Michael Keane.
But it seems a new club now want to try their luck at bringing in the experienced Englishman.

The Athletic journalist David Ornstein has reported that Southampton are ‘exploring’ the possibility to sign West Ham United-linked centre-back Michael Keane from Everton.
Ornstein has stated that the Saints are considering a loan switch for Keane, as they value his Premier League experience, leadership and sheer quality.
However, it has been stated that Everton will only consider a permanent offer for the 29-year-old, while Southampton are yet to hold direct talks or put in an offer for the West Ham-linked man.
Ultimately, West Ham will be hoping that it is them and not Southampton whose centre-back roster is boosted by the arrival of Michael Keane.
