Graeme Bailey has stated on the Talking Transfers Podcast that Southampton were impressed by Jesse Marsch’s role in keeping Leeds United in the Premier League last season.
This comes amid reports that the Saints are about to hire the American as their new manager.
Marsch, of course, led the Whites to a 17th-place finish and secured their top-flight status on the final day of the campaign with a win against Brentford.
According to Bailey, the Saints are impressed by the manner in which Marsch kept Leeds up last season.
Southampton are hoping that Marsch can replicate this feat for them this season, as they are currently struggling at the bottom of the table.

Bailey shared what he knows about Marsch.
“I’m told from the Southampton end that they are impressed by his demeanour, impressed by how he kept Leeds up last season, which he did do, he did a good job of keeping Leeds up because they were on the brink weren’t they,” Bailey said.

Southampton are apparently impressed by how Marsch kept Leeds up last season, but was it really all that impressive a feat?
Let’s not forget, Marsch only won four games during his time in charge last season, and two of those were via last-minute winners against both Norwich and Wolves.
This was by no means an incredible managerial feat. There was a real stroke of luck about it, and if it weren’t for two massive moments, Leeds would have been dead and buried last season.
If Southampton think they’re getting a survival specialist in the shape of Marsch, they’re sorely mistaken.
