This weekend sees Southampton hosting Liverpool at Saint Mary’s in what should prove an intriguing affair.
These two provided two fascinating games last season as Liverpool beat the Saints 6-1 in the league but were then beaten 3-2 at Saint Mary’s back in March.
All eyes this weekend will be on forward Sadio Mane, who swapped Southampton for Liverpool in the summer transfer window.
He has since been a huge hit at Anfield, playing a key role in the Reds rise to the top of the Premier League table.
His replacement at his former club is arguably Nathan Redmond, who joined the club from Norwich City in the summer.
So how do the two players compare so far this season? Here’s what the stats have to say.
| Team | Accurate Passes per Game | Key Passes per Game | Passing Accuracy | Crossing Accuracy | Won Contests per Game | Shots on Target per Game | Goals | Assists | Appearances | Mins Played | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nathan Redmond | Southampton | 29.64 | 2.09 | 89% | 19% | 2 | 1 | 3 | 0 | 11 | 975 |
| Sadio Mané | Liverpool | 31.3 | 1.6 | 79% | 18% | 2.9 | 1 | 6 | 2 | 10 | 868 |
Redmond has been the better passer, posting more key passes per game, two compared to 1.6 as well as enjoying a better overall passing accuracy.
Mane, however, has managed to register more accurate passes per game than the Southampton man so far.

He is also on top when it comes to contests won per game, winning 2.9 compared to two, although Redmond has enjoyed the better crossing accuracy.
The pair are level for shots on target per game, one each, although Mane comes out on top for goals and assists so far.
That sees him come out on top in four of the eight areas analysed and Liverpool will be hoping he is similarly successful this weekend as they look to continue their title push.
