The Saints midfielder is in form but did not make Gareth Southgate’s cut for the latest Three Lions squad.

England manager Gareth Southgate has named his squad for the upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Montenegro but some Southampton fans were left bemused by one notable omission.
James Ward-Prowse has excelled for the Saints under Ralph Hasenhuttl this season, scoring six Premier League goals since the turn of the year and helping the club out of the division’s bottom three.
Indeed, the 24-year-old’s last goal helped Southampton defeat Premier League high-flyers Tottenham Hotspur last time out, his wonderful curled free kick against Hugo Lloris giving the south coast side all three points late on.
However, Southgate has opted not to call Ward-Prowse up, with his midfield crop consisting of Ross Barkley, Dele Alli, Fabian Delph, Eric Dier, Jordan Henderson, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Declan Rice.
Although the England boss was very complimentary about the Saints ace at his press conference, he suggested that having “only recently got back into the team at Southampton” could have been a key reason for his omission (England Twitter).
Following the squad announcement and Southgate’s comments on Ward-Prowse, some Southampton fans took to Twitter to make their feelings known:
Ward-Prowse has started each of Southampton’s last 13 games in all competitions – his longest ever run in the team (Sky Sports News).
